Netaji Subhas Open University, established in 1997 is the 10th open university in the country. This university is approved by the UGC, RCI and AICTE. Initially, NSOU Kolkata used to provide only Bachelor's degree in Arts and Commerce. Currently, the university offers UG, PG, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Ph.D courses. The university has six departments dedicated to Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Vocational Studies, Education, and Professional Studies.

Admission Process
Every year, the online NSOU admission starts in July. Students can apply for any UG, PG or other courses through the official website of the university. For admission to the Certificate and PG diploma courses, candidates have to submit a demand draft of relevant amount in favour of NSOU Kolkata Open University and submit it to the study center.

The university offers "BAYER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM - MEDHA" for EWS/Low income group students from M.Sc and Ph.D courses in Biotech, Life Sciences, or Pharma streams. Besides this, NSOU Kolkata students are also eligible to get scholarships from the following:
