To develop the personalities of students and to make them globally competent, the university has a Placement Cell that hosts campus recruitment drives to offer students jobs in different sectors. Thiruvalluvar University got establishment in the year 2002 under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002. The act was passed by the Tamil Nadu Government on 16th October 2002 to establish the institute with the motive to empower the society with high education. Currently, the University is in Vellore Fort which is a fort in Vellore Town. The overall circumference of the fort is around 2600 meters.
The Thiruvalluvar University was once the Post Graduation Extension Center, Madras University, which operated at the fort campus, Vellore. The University has got its name from the greatest Tamil poets Thiruvalluvar.

The courses that Thiruvalluvar Institute of Distance Education (TIDE) offers are a computer application, science commerce, business administration, and arts. The University and its affiliated colleges, conduct semester/non-semester examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate degree students. Thiruvalluvar University was brought into existence by the Tamil Nadu Government at Vellore. The University got inaugurated on 16th October 2002 by the respected Chief Minister Selvi Dr. J. Jayalalithaa. The University campus covers a large area of 113 acres in Serkkadu which is close to Vallimalai. In India, there is a requirement of such an educational institution that can fulfill the need of the community belonging to the different region.
