Chennai Mathematical Institute - CMI Siruseri was established in 1989 as a part of the Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Ltd (SPIC) Science Foundation to advance the growth of Science and Technology in the country. Initially the institute began as the School of Mathematics and since 1996 has been working as an autonomous institution. It was assigned ‘Deemed To Be University’ status by the Government of India in December, 2006.
Vision: The institute was set up with a vision to be a prominent education center globally by achieving early success and making the institute a well rounded education hub.
Mission: CMI’s mission is to bridge the gap between academics and research by offering various programs in mathematics and allied subjects.
Degrees at UG, PG, and doctorate level are provided by the institution by offering multiple courses in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. Following are a few of the courses offered by CMI.
Admission to CMI other than the Ph.D courses is through the entrance exam held across various states in India. For admission to all Ph.D programs contenders must appear in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) followed by an interview with the shortlisted candidates. Also direct admission to B.Sc courses is made for students with great achievements in the National Olympiads in Mathematics. Additionally, students seeking admission to the university must fulfill the eligibility criteria for the respective courses they are applying for. Scholarships at the institute are offered to the students who have performed excellently and to the reserved category candidates to provide them equal opportunities for education. Scholarships are awarded in the form of tuition fee waiver only to the eligible students pursuing B.Sc, M.Sc, or Ph.D courses. However before applying for the scholarships students must be well aware of the eligibility criteria of the scholarships offered at the institute. The decision whether the student is eligible to get the scholarship or not will be made at the time of admission. Furthermore, the continuity of the scholarship will depend upon the performance of the candidates in the academic session and will be reviewed every semester.

CMI conducts campus interviews for several years now. Interested companies who want permanent jobs or interviews can send a job description on the separate placement website of CMI. If a reasonable number of candidates show interest in the job, the company will be informed within a week. Resumes of the interested applicants will then be sent to the company. Afterwards campus interview date is fixed and companies can give a pre placement talk and conduct written tests and personal interview.
Many of the CMI passed out students are placed in a high position in some of the well known research organisations and companies. The lengthy list of the major recruiter companies of CMI include Credit Suisse, Tata Research Development and Design Centre, Ernst & Young, Zendrive, Fresh Works, Octro, Morgan-Stanley, Skylark Drones, Teradata, Intellect Design Arena, Adobe, Coriolis Technologies Private Limited, LatentView, Systematrix Computer Services, Delhivery, etc.
CMI campus was relocated at the SIPCOT Information Technology Park in Siruseri in the year 2005. The campus area covers 5 acres of land which was donated by the Shriram Group Companies and is very well designed keeping in mind the needs of the academic institution.
