The English and Foreign Languages University [EFLU Shillong] established in 1973 is a Central University. Admission in EFLU Shillong is offered in Humanities and Languages at UG/ PG/ Doctorate level with scholarship benefits to deserving students.
The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) was established back in 1958 as Central Institute of English (CIE). The current EFLU Shillong campus was set up in 1973 with the name Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL), to cater to the requirement of language practitioners in the North and North East.
Vision: The Vision of the university is to achieve excellence in the field of humanities with special emphasis on languages, literature, and culture.
Mission: EFLU Shillong’s mission is to impart knowledge through innovation, research, training, and widespread education in English and Foreign languages. The university drives its efforts towards the holistic development of its students with a sense of social responsibility.
EFLU Shillong offers courses in Languages, Mass Communication and Journalism field. The programs run by the university include B.A, M.A, M.Phil, and Ph.D level courses. Students can also pursue Certificate and Diploma courses in different languages such as Russian, German, French, and Spanish. These programs are being provided under various departments, namely:
Admissions to the undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D courses in the university are subject to qualifying the entrance test conducted by the university, in addition to fulfilling the eligibility criteria of the respective courses. Students can apply for a maximum of two programs in the university. However, they cannot apply for the same program in two campuses.

Note: Candidates pursuing the qualifying exam can also fill the application form for the entrance exam. However admission shall be finally confirmed post the results of the qualifying exam and the student should have met the above mentioned eligibility criteria.
The University supports its students financially in their educational journey by awarding them fellowships and / or scholarships. Girl students pursuing post graduate courses in the university are awarded Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship on a condition that they fulfill the eligibility criteria.

The Placement Cell in the university acts as a link between the recruiting companies and graduates. The Cell grooms its students to make sure that they have necessary skills and knowledge required for the particular job in their relevant field. The University organises several activities like group discussions, training, presentations, essay writings, proficiency tests, interviews, and more.
Most of the university graduates are selected by reputed foreign, national, state, and private organisations. Students from the Department of Media and Communication are working in renowned companies like Voxta Communication, Elogictech Solutions, Janrise Advertising, Bellwether Digital Media, etc. Students who pass foreign language courses from the university are hired by multinational companies like Amazon, Tata Consultancy Services, ORACLE, Concentrix, Toshiba, and more.
EFLU Shillong campus is situated within the permanent campus of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU). The campus has excellent infrastructure facilities to support the overall development of the students. The academic block of the university campus is designed in a way to cater to the changing education demands. A Language Lab with 30 multimedia computers is present in the university for practicing and learning English and other foreign languages. In addition to these facilities, a Multimedia Lab with several facilities like online audio & video mixing, recording facility, Portable lighting kits, production control room, single camera production units, and more are available for students.
