Deccan College PostGraduate and Research Institute Pune is the third oldest educational institution in India, and has its existence since two centuries ago. The College was initially started with the name ‘Hindoo College’ by the Bombay Presidency Government and was renamed as the Poona College and later as the Deccan College in October 1864. It is among the few universities in the country specialising on the past and present heritage of the country. The College started functioning as Deemed University from the academic session 1994-95 and is also accredited by NAAC.
Vision: The university’s’ vision is to achieve cultural growth, social uniformity, national integration, and future direction through discovery and scientific analysis of worthy information and historical data so as to build an ancient knowledge system.
Mission: It aims to create an exceptionally conducive learning environment so that students can be prepared for meaningful personal lives and emerge as responsible citizen globally. The university drives its efforts to prevent and preserve the cultural heritage of the country by providing academic services like consultancy, lectures, scientific analysis of data, exhibitions, etc.
There are three full fledged departments at the university providing various courses at PG, Diploma, Certificate, and Doctorate level. These include:
Admissions to the MA degree programs in the university are open for regular students only. While for Ph.D courses desired students must fill the application form for the entrance test and attach the necessary documents with it. Students who have cleared the GATE / NET / SET / M.Phil / JRF exam are exempted from the entrance test. It is mandated for them to appear in the English language test, as the medium of instruction at the university is English. In addition, students must also clear Medical Test and submit course work treated as pre Ph.D preparation carrying 20 credits. Those selected from the test are eligible to appear in the interview round. Also due attention is paid to the State Reservation Policy while admitting students to Ph.D programs.

Scholarships available on the National Scholarships Portal/ DBT Portal/National Tribe Fellowship portal are awarded to the eligible PG students who will apply online. Hence, all the PG students must be aware of the scholarships on these portals. For foreign students a number of scholarships are offered under Indian Council for Cultural Relations Scholarship Scheme. Although, there are different rules and guidelines of the various scholarships which students must satisfy in order to avail the scholarship at the university.

Deccan College PostGraduate and Research Institute Fee Structure
The campus of the college was shifted to a new campus sprawling over an area of 115 acres near Yerawada after it was renamed as the Deccan College. The main building is built in a beautiful Gothic style and has all the amenities required for comfortable stay and effective learning.
