Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) was established as Lakshmibai College of Physical Education (LCPE) in August 1957 by the Ministry of Education & Culture, Government of India. The institute when started was affiliated to Vikram University and got deemed to be university status in 2018. The university aims to impart knowledge in the field of physical education, sports/games, and other disciplinary subjects. It is accredited by NAAC with “A++” grade.
Vision: The institute’s vision is to engage in a persistent quest of knowledge to achieve excellence in physical education and sports for the health and wellness of the people.
Mission: LNIPE motto is to impart quality teaching, learning, and research in comprehension, bodily function and intuitive domains in physical education and sports.
The institute offers a range of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Doctorate, and Diploma courses in regular and open and distance learning mode. Multiple courses available for the students are categorised under following heads.
Anyone from India and abroad can take admission in the university on a condition they must satisfy the eligibility requirements for the particular course. Additionally admissions to LNIPE are subject to the reservation policy of Government of India. 3% of the supernumerary seats are for the students of permanent employees provided that they fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements and submit a certificate issued by the Registrar of LNIPE.
Candidates seeking admission to the university can apply offline as well as online. Those seeking admission to B.P.Ed, M.P.Ed, M.A. (Sports Management), MA (Yoga) and MA (Sports Journalism) must apply through the Common University Entrance Test conducted by the National Testing Agency. For other courses except the Diploma in Sports Coaching candidates can apply for admission on the institute’s official website.

To support the physically weaker section of the society and motivate them towards education, scholarships are being offered at LNIPE. Various scholarships provided by the institute as per their rules, approved by the competent authority are Merit Scholarship, Sports Scholarship, Ph.D. Scholarship, Prof. R.P. Sharma Scholarship, and other scholarships offered by the State and Union Territory Government. Furthermore, scholarships are also awarded to the deserving candidates by the North East Council. For availing any of the scholarship offered by the institute, candidates must submit the scholarship form for the academic year by February for processing.
The Training and Placement Cell at LNIPE coordinates and effectively implements all the activities related to placement. The various activities performed by the department include interacting with the potential recruiters, placement presentation at various companies, organising resume writing and interviews, gathering information related to job fairs and recruitment advertisements, organising pre-placement training / workshops / seminars, and more.

LNIPE campus is located in Shakti Nagar, on Race Course Road, at a distance 1 km from Gwalior Railway Station, covering an area of about 153 acres and is fully residential.
