Col. Prof. Dr. Vel. Shri R. Rangarajan founded the Vel Tech High Tech Dr. Rangarajan Dr. Sakunthala Engineering College in 2002. Originally called Vel SRS High Tech Engineering College, the institution commenced its journey with only three faculties, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering. AICTE has granted approval to the college and Anna University bestowed affiliation to the institution in the year 2002.
Anna University and AICTE has stipulated Vel Tech High Tech to operate 11 schools of study that register students for three PG and eight UG programs. Currently, two thousand two hundred and fifty five (2255) students pursue a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by Vel Tech. The institution has been awarded with an “A” Grade by NAAC and is presently an ISO 9001:2008 certified college.
NBA (National Board of Accreditation) has accredited the Chemical and Biotechnology faculties of the college. UGC has awarded 12(B) and 2(F) status to the engineering college. Anna University has permanently affiliated six undergraduate courses and one postgraduate program including B.E. (CSE, ECE, and Civil Engineering) and MBA. Over the years, the college has bagged several awards and earned top rankings from different regulatory bodies.
NIRF 2017 ranked the institution as one of the top 200 engineering colleges in the country. Amongst all the 497 self-financing, private colleges affiliated to Anna University, Vel Tech with 31 rank holders was placed in the 19th position. Anna University conferred the “Intellectual Property Rights Award” to Vel Tech High Tech. Chronicle Survey accorded 11th rank to the institution amongst the Top-20 business schools in South Zone.
A good number of students also have brought fame and recognition to the college by winning sought-after awards. For instance, 48 student volunteers completed 100 hours of summer internship under the “Swachch Bharat” scheme. There are many good reasons for pursuing a study program offered by the college. Since inception, the institution has signed MOUs with over 20 establishments and successfully placed more than fifteen hundred students.
